"Cacao changed something in me. I just wanted to share that with people."
I started Mana Cacao out of love — plain and simple. Cacao brought a wonderful energy into my life and was my preferred morning beverage for a year or so before I decided to start to bridge this amazing medicine to the United States. So I set out with one intention: bring only the highest quality cacao beans into our facility and turn them into the best cacao I could, for everyone to enjoy.
I've spent several years traveling all over Central and South America — Guatemala and Peru especially, where so much of the world's ceremonial cacao comes from. And while I loved it there, nothing I tried compared to the cacao I found right here in Costa Rica. It's by far the creamiest, the most flavorful, and carries the best energy of any I've come across in all my years of travel. That's exactly why I'm so passionate about Mana Cacao.
Costa Rica makes that possible. The rich volcanic soil and warm tropical climate give the cacao here a depth and character you can't fake. Ours is heirloom cacao — an older, rarer variety, naturally rich in theobromine — and we keep it whole and full-fat, nothing stripped out and nothing added. Every brick and every bag carries a little of that: the land, the farmers, and the care that goes into it. I hope you feel it too.
We roast our cacao at low temperatures, for the shortest time possible, to keep all the beneficial alkaloids and nutrition as intact as we can. You can taste and feel the difference — all-day, sustained energy from one nice cup in the morning.

More than a treat
Whole, full-fat cacao — the way nature made it — is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. Long before it was candy, people drank it. Ours is heirloom cacao, an older and rarer variety, grown in Costa Rica's volcanic soil, which gives it a depth and richness you can taste.
Because we never defat it, you get everything the bean has to offer — including theobromine, the gentle compound that gives cacao its warm, clear lift. Traditionally, people have reached for cacao to feel grounded, present, and a little more open-hearted. We just try to make the best version of it we can, and let the cacao do the rest.
Cacao is a beautiful companion for meditation, yoga, or a long day of focused work. The lift comes mostly from theobromine — cacao's primary stimulant — rather than the big caffeine hit of coffee, so the energy feels calmer, clearer, and more sustained: steady focus without the jitters or the crash. There's still a little caffeine in cacao, just far less than a cup of coffee — plus real nutrition in every cup, from magnesium and iron to cacao's rich antioxidant flavanols.
